User Submitted: Is Excel needed for downloaded data?

Live Search

Comments, Questions, Anything:

I am signed up for the upcoming class on how to import the agent roster. Before that, I’m wondering if I need to buy Excel for my MAC before I am able to do the import?

I have Excel on my iPad but seem unable to import to it.

Thank you.

Answer:

Excel is not specifically needed but some sort of spreadsheet program is highly recommended.
MAC computers should have “Numbers” installed by default.

If you do not have Excel you can always download information in the .csv file format from REsearch.

CSV is actually a plain text format where the data is separated by commas (Comma Separated Values).

The CSV file can be opened with any text editor such as Word, Notepad, etc. Of course you will not be able to move columns, easily sort, etc. but you can view and verify the data before moving the file to a computer that has a spreadsheet program.
The CSV file can also be opened with any spread sheet program and you should be able to manipulate columns just as any other spreadsheet.

If you are using a program other than Excel, I would download the .csv file to ensure your spreadsheet program can open the download. Not all programs (such as Numbers) can easily open .xls files properly. They should all be able to open .csv files with no problems.
